UNIT 12 SOCIETY

 List factors that cause the population of a certain location to change.

 Birth rate  death rate  emigration  i mm igration.

 What is birth rate ?

 The birth rate is the number of people born in a place every year.

 What is death rate ?

 The death rate is the number of people who die in a place every year.

 What is natural growth rate ?

 The natural growth rate is the difference between the birth and death rate. It can be positive or negative.

 Define:  Emigrants

 People who leave a place to live somewhere else.  People who leave a country to live in another country.

 Define:  Immigrants

 People who come to a country to live from another country.

 How do you calculate Real growth rate?

 REAL GROWTH RATE Natural growth rate + immigration -emigration

 How many inhabitants must have a place in order to be a rural place?

 A place is considered a rural place when it has less than 10.000 inhabitants.

 Define:  Rural population:  Urban population:

 What is population density ?

 Population density shows us, by comparison, if a territory is highly populated or sparsely (escasamente) populated.  The population density tells us if a terrytory has a lot of inhabitants or a few.

 How do we calculate it?

 By dividing the number of inhabitants of the territory by the surface area of the territory.

 How is the spanish population distributed?

 The spanish population is very unequally distributed.  The distribution of Spanish population is irregular. The coasts are more highly populated than the interior except for Madrid.

 What is the average population density of Spain?

 The population density of Spain is 90 inhabitants per square Kilometre.

 Why has the population of Spain increased a lot over the last 100 years?

The death has fallen a lot, and, in recent years, many immigrants have arrived. or The population of Spain has increased a lot because of a decrease in the death rate and an increase in the rate of immigration.

exercise  In 2014, in one place with 80 inhabitants, 9 babies were born, 7 people died, 15 immigrants arrived, and 6 emigrants left.  What was the NATURAL GROWTH RATE?  What was the REAL GROWTH RATE?  What was the FINAL POPULATION?

 Initial population  80 inhabitants  Birth rate  9  Death rate  7  NATURAL GROWTH RATE  9-7=2 2  Immigrants  15  Emigrants  6  REAL GROWTH RATE  2+15=17-6=11 11  FINAL POPULATION  80+11= 91 91 inhabitants
