4 FACULTY AUTHORITY Secondary Ed: District & state office make decisions, control curriculum District policy & budget determine how frequently textbooks can be changed

5 FACULTY AUTHORITY Post-secondary Ed: Faculty make decisions, control curriculum Faculty choose the textbooks, text changes every 2 years Faculty can change teacher credential requirements

6 SOURCES OF CURRICULUM Secondary Ed GE classes: State Core Curriculum must be taught Secondary Ed ATE classes: state office determines competencies

11 CLASS SIZE RESTRICTIONS Secondary Ed: must have MINIMUM 38 students in each class to be cost- effective

12 CLASS SIZE RESTRICTIONS Post-secondary Ed: enrollment restrictions maximum 25 or 30 students in English & language classes

15 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Secondary teachers and students comply with post-secondary procedures Some have GPA requirements for students enrolling in CE

16 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Post-secondary departments are not sympathetic with secondary circumstances Placement Testing, Admission Requirements aren’t flexible

17 ACCOUNTABILITY Secondary Ed is accountable to parents, with midterm reports, grades, etc.

19 MATURITY OF STUDENTS High school students change classes, don’t withdraw from college High school students expect college credit even if they’re not properly registered or don’t complete the class Don’t understand they’re generating a permanent college record
