Nutrition: / Eating foods the body needs to grow, develop & function properly, especially during the teenage years.

Diet: / Foods and drink that we regularly choose to consume.

Balanced Diet: / The right amount of nutrients. Eat a variety of foods.

Calorie: / A unit of heat that measures the energy available in different foods or used up during exercise.

RDA: Recommended Dietary Allowances / A guideline for the amount of each nutrient that should be consumed daily.

Nutrients: / One of six types of substances in food that the body needs to grow and function properly.

Fiber: / The part of fruits, vegetables, and grains that cannot be digested.

Cholesterol: / A waxy, fatlike substance found in cells of all animals.

Nutrient Density: / The nutrients in food compared with the calories they provide.

Eating Disorder: / Extreme and dangerous eating behavior that can result in serious illness or death.

Anorexia Nervosa: / An eating disorder that is characterized by an intense fear of weight gain and that often leads to extreme weight loss from self- starvation.

Bulimia: / An eating disorder characterized by extreme overeating followed by purging.

Obesity: / A condition in which a person’s weight is 20% or more above his or her desired weight.
