1950 Korean war begins It was a war between North and South Korea. The Americans got involved and fought on behalf of South Korea.

1951 Colored Tv was introduced The first colored television was show aired, "The World Is Yours!" with Ivan T. Sanderso.

1957 Dr. Seuss published “The Cat In the Hat” which became a beloved classic.

1958 Lego toy bricks are introduced and they became a sensation and the company began to grow.

1959 The sound of music comes out on Broadway for the first time.

Korean War This was one of the most important event of the 1950s. The war was between North and South Korea. America then became involved on behalf of North Korea. Nearly 5 million people lost their lives in the war.

Swing dresses They say they are coming back into style and were worn during everyday events.

Women’s shoes Stiletto heels were the style. There was a competition between designers to see can make the skinniest heel.

gloves Long gloves were worn to make women look “ultra fashionable”

Handbags Handbags were a huge way to look fishable in the 1950s. Most women preferred short strap handbags.

Skirts Women either wore pencil skirts or big skirts. For casual occasions a wider skirt was worn.

Women's shorts Women wore shorts to the beach or around the house. They were still required to wear dresses most occasions. The shorts usual came to mid thigh.

Balenciaga Balenciaga was born in a small village. He spent many hours by his mothers side. His mother was a seamstress. In his teen years, people in his town became his clients and then from there he began to open many little stores and branched out. Balenciaga's designs have been taken over and are still continuing to be made

Charles James Was born in Brittan and was known for his cutting skills and build of his clothing. James moved around from place to place to study fashion. He looked at his fashion pieces as if they were pieces of art. He became known for his gowns. Charles James is a forgotten designer but his gowns created a new world of fashion.
