Early Fungicides and Nitrogen can Managing Leaf Spot Diseases (Yellow Spot and Stagonospora Nodorum) Ciara Beard Lesson 3
13
Controlling leaf spot diseases – yellow spot and stagonospora (septoria) nodorum – in wheat-on-wheat cropping 1.Are early foliar fungicide applications (at or prior to first node) effective and profitable? 2.Does nitrogen application enhance the effectiveness of fungicide application? YES

Case of Premature Application? Do early foliar fungicide applications control disease and do they pay, which application time is best? Eight similar trials conducted in 2010 and 2011 in the central + northern wheatbelt, varieties susceptible to yellow spot or stagonospora nodorum, all sown on to wheat stubble. Six trials were sown, two opportunistic

;;;;;; Fungicide Sprays at Z15, Z25 and Z31 +/- a second spray at Z39 (flag leaf) EGA Eagle Rock (S) Geraldton, WA, 2010. Early spraying can reduce leaf spot diseases when susceptible varieties are sown on wheat stubble

18
........ Early spraying for leaf spot diseases can be economical when S varieties are sown on wheat stubble + conditions favour early disease.

Where early disease is severe and developing rapidly on susceptible variety & seasonal conditions favour disease development - Application at tillering or stem extension delays disease development and increases yield Z31 application most reliable timing for profitability May need additional application at flag leaf emergence
