#3. Page 354 *Plants use energy from sunlight and molecules from carbon dioxide and water to produce ATP and sugars. *Sugars are converted into organic molecules using ATP for energy. *Those organic molecules are used for growth and maintenance of the plant

4. Explain why food can be considered a fuel. Because food is chemical storage (in the molecules) of energy. When food (the chemical bonds) is broken down, energy is released (stored in ATP) and this provides energy (or FUEL)for the organism to use for cell processes and mechanical energy. 5. Is it possible for animals to survive without plants? Why or why not? NO. Plants (and other photosynthetic organisms) are the only organisms capable of trapping the sun’s energy and turning it into a usable form of chemical energy for other living creatures on earth.
