Not Far From The Kingdom Mark 12:28-34
2
Introduction The kingdom of God was a focal point of prophecy (Gen. 49:8-10; Isa. 9:6-7; Dan. 2:44-45). As the time drew nigh for God’s purpose to be fulfilled, both John the Baptist (Matt. 3:1-2) and Jesus Christ (Matt. 4:17) preached that “the kingdom of God is at hand.” Not only was the kingdom of God near unto men, but the Bible also speaks of men who were near unto the kingdom (Mark 12:28-34).
3
The Nature of the Kingdom When Scripture speaks of the kingdom of God, it describes a monarchial form of spiritual government (Luke 1:31-33; Col. 3:17; Eph. 2:19-20). Furthermore, “the kingdom of God” and “the church of Christ” refer to the same spiritual realm (Matt. 16:16-19; Col. 1:13-14, 18; Heb. 12:22-24, 28-29; Rev. 1:4, 6, 9).
4
The Dividing Line In the New Testament the kingdom of God is represented as both a rule unto which man must submit (Luke 17:20- 21; Rom. 14:16-17) and a realm into which man must enter (Luke 16:16; Matt. 4:23-25). In either case, we may be near unto or far from God’s kingdom, depending upon our attitude and disposition.
5
The Qualities Of Nearness Many are far from the kingdom of God (Rom. 3:10-18). Others, like this scribe, have progressed spiritually to the point that they are near to the kingdom of God.

The Qualities Of Nearness This Scribe was Knowledgeable This Scribe was Open-Minded This Scribe was Courageous This Scribe was Humble
7
The Terms Of Admission To enter the kingdom of God, one must be born of the water and the Spirit (John 3:1-5). This demands faith in Christ (John 8:24) This demands repentance from past sins (Luke 13:3) This demands confession that Jesus is the son of God (Matt. 10:32-33) This demands baptism into Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Rom. 6:3-4; Gal. 3:26-27)

Conclusion Many today are in the same condition as this scribe. Why remain on the outside looking in? Why remain on the borderland of God’s kingdom? If you believe, do not hesitate. Obey today!
