3. Mission The mission of the Northwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (The EpiCenter) is to collaborate with Northwest American Indian Tribes to provide health-related research, surveillance, and training to improve the quality of life of American Indians and Alaskan Natives (AI/ANs). 3

Background/Overview WEAVE This is a 5-year award running from October 2014 through September 2019 Overall objective is to establish or strengthen and broaden the reach and impact of effective chronic disease prevention programs that improve the health of tribal members and communities. With a particular focus on policy, systems and environment change (PSE), community- clinical linkages, and health system interventions Two “components” within the grantees Component 1: Eleven individual tribes funded across the nation Component 2: Ten Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs) funded Within the WEAVE-NW funding, five tribes have received sub- awards to do similar work as the C1 tribes, but on a smaller scale 7

Looking ahead… Improving Public Health…  5- year grant will allow us to work toward improving health inequity among AI/AN in the Pacific Northwest  By provision of training, technical assistance, support and evaluation of public health initiatives …through Policy, Systems and Environment Enhancements  Informed by local-level tribal health status reports  And Community Based participation to inform and enhance change 8

Accomplishments EpiCenter staff members are actively involved in professional activities at regional and national levels, thus contributing to increased knowledge and awareness of AI/AN health disparities and programs. Collaborative environment has been established among Tribal Epidemiology Center Directors to advocate collectively for key issues in Indian Country. Provision of more, improved region specific data to Tribes for the state level. Tribal level reports are being rolled out at this time. 10
