Least Common Multiple Objective: Finding Least Common Multiple (LCM)
Vocabulary The least common multiple of two numbers is the smallest number (not zero) that is a multiple of both.

Method 1: Listing the Multiples
Find the LCM of 6 and 8 Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30… Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32… What’s the least common multiple? The LCM of 6 and 8 is 24.

Method 2: Using Prime Factorization
Find the LCM of 9 and 21 9 3 3 21 3 7 9: 3•3 21: 3•7 Eliminate the common prime factors. Multiply 9 by the remaining prime factors of 21, or multiply 21 by the remaining prime factors of 9. 9 × 7 = 63, 21 × 7 = 63 the LCM of 9 and 21 is 63
