Multiplying and Dividing negative integers BY KADEE, JACEY, AND PAOLA
2
Multiplying a positive x a positive Positive x positive= positive Ex: 2 x 3= 6
3
Negative x positive Negative x Positive = Negative Ex: -2 x 3 = -6 The order doesn’t matter Positive x Negative = negative Ex: 3 x -2 = -6 Another way to think about it is -2+ -2 + -2 = -6
4
Negative x Negative NNegative x Negative = Positive --2 x -3 = +6 NNegatives cancel out so it equals positive
5
Reminder about zero Zero is neither Positive or Negative Anything (even negative numbers) x 0 = 0 Ex: 0 x -743 = 0
6
Dividing a positive by a positive Positive/Positive = positive You knew this since forever
7
Negative/Positive Negative/positive = Negative Ex: 8/-2= -4 Order does matter just like dividing positives Ways to make it easy: think of the problem as positive and then and you negative sign when your done doing the problem
8
Negative/negative Negative/negative = positive Ex: -30/-5= 6 Remember the order does matter when dividing!
