A hamburger’s healthy, right? It’s got cheese, bread, meat, and veggies. That’s FALSE By: Abigail Davis and Gwyn Osborne

Yeah, that looks appetizing!

The healthy factor a hamburger isn’t as healthy as you may think. Although it does have things from the main food groups- these are usually artificial or grease coated when ordered from fast food places like Wendy’s or McDonalds. That’s the way fast food places make their burgers, they are coated and cooked in grease and fat, making this an unhealthy factor. The bread is lacking in the healthy area like grains and wheat, and the cheese is usually artificial and grease coated as well. (As for the ketchup, that’s not really a veggie.)

The calorie part of it To support our facts further, here’s how many calories are in a plain cheeseburger- from McDonalds 300, and a Big Mac has 540 - which isn’t too bad, for a nice sized healthy meal, and there’s also that fact that most of those calories are from fat and sodium. So this burger makes a meal that is high in fat, sugar, sodium, and animal products which are used to make the meat. This is the type of food that’s actually been linked to breast cancer, and heart disease.

See what we mean?

The healthy alternative Now, if you really wanted a healthy alternative for a fast food fix, here’s an example of what you could use: Pita bread, fresh vegetables like tomatoes and lettuce, Mozzarella cheese, and a veggie or turkey burger. And, feel free to use some ketchup too. optional-(you could use salt free.) These ingredients are fresh, wholesome, and definitely not full of fat or sodium calories. But best of all, this alternative tastes good!

The healthy alternative!
