2.  Nelumbo nucifera, known as  Indian lotus,  sacred lotus,  bean of India, or  simply lotus, is  A plant in the Nelumbonaceae family.  Botanically, Nelumbo nucifera (Gaertn.)  Its former names are  Nelumbium speciosum or  Nymphaea nelumbo.
