UNIT- MADE TO AN OPERATING UNIT WORN ONLY BY MEMBERS OF THAT UNIT WHO PARTICIPATED IN CITED ACTION. EXAMPLES: PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION RIBBON, JOINT MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD OR NAVY UNIT COMMENDATION RIBBON. SERVICE- FOR THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED IN DESIGNATED WARS, CAMPAIGNS OR EXPEDITIONS WHO FULFILLED CREDITBLE, SPECIFIC SERVICE REQUIREMENTS. EXAMPLES: POW MEDAL, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, SEA SERVICE DEPLOYMENT RIBBON. TYPES OF AWARDS

Medal- Presented to individual for performing certain duties, acts or services; medallion hanging from colored ribbon. Examples: Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Legion of Merit NOTE: MINIATURE MEDALS ARE REPLICAS OF LARGE ONES BUT ½ THE SIZE. THERE IS NOT A MINIATURE MEDAL OF HONOR. ATTACHMENTS ARE ITEMS SUCH AS STARS, LETTTER, CLASP OR OTHER DEVICE WORN ON THE RIBBON OR MEDAL. TYPES OF AWARDS- CONT.

MINIATURE MEDALS AND BREAST INSIGNIA, MEDAL OF HONOR, AND MINIATURE REPLICAS CAN BE WORN ON CIVILIAN EVENING DRESS (WHITE TIE) OR CIVILIAN DINNER DRESS (BLACK TIE). WEARING AWARDS ON CIVILIAN CLOTHES

MAY BE WORN ON THE UNIFORM IF AT LEAST ONE MILITARY AWARD IS WORN AT THE SAME TIME. EXAMPLES: PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM, MEDAL OF MERIT, NOAA ADMINISTRATOR’S AWARD, CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR. NON-MILITARY DECORATIONS

PERSONNEL WHO HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZED TO ACCEPT MILITARY DECORATIONS FROM FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS MAY WEAR THEM IN THE ORDER OF THEIR RECIEPT AFTER ALL U.S. SERVICE AWARDS. THE AWARDING COUNTRY DETEREMINES PRECENDENCE IF YOU EARN TWO OR MORE FROM THAT COUNTRY. CAN ONLY WEAR THEM IF YOU ARE WEARING AT LEAST ONE U.S. AWARD. FOREIGN DECORATIONS AND NON U. S. SERVICE AWARDS

EXAMPLES: U.S. DISTINGUISHED INTERNATIONAL SHOOTER BADGE, NAVY PISTOL SHOT EXCELLANCE IN COMPETITION BADGE (GOLD), PRESIDENT’S HUNDRED AWARD- RIFLE OR PISTOL (ENLISTED PERSONNEL ONLY FOR THESE TWO) MANNER OF WEAR: WHEN WEARING RIBBONS, PLACE BADGES BELOW BOTTOM ROW IN SECONDARY POSITION. WHEN WEARING IN SECONDARY POSTION, SECONDARY WARFARE DEVICE IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE WORN. MARKSMANSHIP AWARDS (BADGES)

WORN ON SERVICE COAT OR JUMPER OF SERVICE DRESS BLUE, DRESS WHITE, AND ON SHIRT OF SERVICE KHAKI, E6 AND BELOW SERVICE UNIFORM, SUMMER WHITE, WINTER BLUE AND TROPICAL WHITE. NOT AUTHORIZED ON FORMAL DRESS, DINNER DRESS, OR WORKING UNIFORMS. CENTER ¼ INCH ABOVE LEFT BREAST POCKET AND PARALLEL TO THE DECK. RIBBONS

ARRANGE RIBBONS IN ORDER OF PRECENDENCE IN ROWS FROM TOP DOWN, INBOARD TO OUTBOARD. RIBBONS- CONT.

WEAR UP TO THREE LARGE MEDALS IN SINGLE ROW, NO OVERLAP. ARRANGE MAXIMUM OF FIVE WITH EQUAL OVERLAP. MINIATURE MEDALS- WEAR UP TO FIVE IN SINGLE ROW, NO OVERLAP. SIX OR MORE WILL HAVE OVERLAP. MEDALS

GOLD STARS- 5/16 IN SIZE ARE WORN FOR SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT AWARDS. SILVER STARS- SAME SIZE AS GOLD BUT WEAR THESE WHEN AWARD EXCEEDS FIVE. BRONZE STARS- SIZE IS 3/16 STARS
