THE DEPRESSION’S NEW DEAL RELIEF RECOVERY REFORM BANKING PROBLEM & MONEY SUPPLY ESTABLISHED THE EMERGENCY BANKING RELIEF ACT, WHICH CREATED A NATIONAL BANK HOLIDAY SO HE COULD SHOW PEOPLE THAT THEIR BANKS WERE SOLVENT. IT WAS DONE TO STOP RUN ON BANKS. HE ALSO CREATED THE FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION TO PROTECT PEOPLES SAVINGS ACCOUNTS. THIS WAS DONE TO REBUILD CONFIDENCE IN THE BANKS. BANKS HAD TO PAY THIS COMPANIES PREMIUMS TO ESTABLISH REVENUE FOR THIS COMPANY TO FUNCTION. HE ALSO TOOK US OFF THE GOLD STANDARD SO MORE PAPER MONEY COULD BE PRINTED AND PUT INTO CIRCULATION (GLASS-STEAGELL BANKING REFORM ACT) STOCK MARKET CRASH US GOVERNMENT LIMITED THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU COULD BORROW ON MARGIN FROM YOUR STOCK BROKER TO ABOUT 20%. IN 1934 PASSED THE FEDERAL SECURITIES ACT, WHICH CREATED THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION. THIS IS A WATCH DOG COMMISSION TO WATCH OVER PEOPLE SELLING STOCKS. THEY LICENSE STOCK BROKERS AND MADE COMPANIES PRINT INFORMATION TO GIVE TO THE PUBLIC OF THE ASSETS AND LIABILITIES OF THEIR COMPANY SO THAT STOCK HOLDERS WOULD KNOW WHAT THEIR BUYING. ALSO THEY WOULD PROSECUTE PEOPLE FOR INSIDE TRADING AND SETTING UP FRADULENT BUSINESSES THE PROBLEMS OF THE FARMER TO PREVENT FARMERS FROM LOOSING THEIR LAND CONGRESS PASSED THE FRAZIER- LEMPKE FARM BANKRUPTCY ACT. IT ESTABLISHED A PERIOD OF 5 YEARS IN WHICH THE FARMER WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY HIS MORTGAGE.. CONGRESS IN 1934 ESTABLISSHED THE TRIPLE A(AAA) AGRICULTURAL ADJUSTMENT ACT. IT WOULD ELIMINATE PRICE DEPRESSING SURPLUSES BY PAYING MILLION OF GROWERS TO REDUCE THEIR CROP ACREAGE. THIS WOULD GIVE THE FARMER CASH FLOW, PLUS RAISE THE PRICES OF HIS PRODUCT. THE MONEY THEY WOULD GET TO PAY THE FARMER WOULD COME ROM TAXING PROCESSORS OF FARM PRODUCTS SUCH AS KELLOGS OR NABISCO. PEOPLE WHO WERE MAKING PRODUCTS FROM FARM PRODUCTS. THIS WAS LATER DECLARED UNCONSTITTONAL AND CONGRESS HAD TO WRITE A SECOND AAA CHANGING THE TAX STRUCTURE SO THAT ONE BUSINESS IS NOT TAXED TO SUPPORT ANOTHER. IN THEORY WE WERE TRYING TO HELP REDISTRIBUTE

THE DEPRESSION’S NEW DEAL PG 2 RELIEF RECOVERY REFORM FARMERS PROBLEM CONTINUED TO HELP REDISTRIBUTE THE INCOME AND WEALTH RESETTLEMENT ADMINISTRATION. AN AGENCY SET UOP TO REMOVE FARMWERS FROM NEAR FARMLESS FARMS TO BETTER LANDS SO THEY COULD MAKE A LIVING. FARM CREDIT ADMINISTRATION WAS A GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY SET UP TO PROVIDE BANKS CHEAP MONEY TO LENDTO FARMERS TO HELP SAVE THEIR FARMS AND PAY OFF THEIR DEBTS. IT SAVED AS MANY AS 300FARMS A DAY MENTAL DEPRESSION AND BEING AFRAID OF THE UNKNOW FIRESIDE CHATS– WEEKLY RADIO BROADCASTS BY ROOSEVELT TO INFORM THE PEOPLE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND TRYING TO ENCOURAGE THE PEOPLE THAT NOT ALL THINGS WERE BAD, OR THEIR FAULT. LOSS OF HOMESTHE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SET UP THE (HOLC) OR THE HOME OWNERS LOAN ASSOCIATION. THE GOVERNMENT SET ASIDE MONEY FOR LOANS TO BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO WERE HAVING A HARD TIME PAYING THEIR MORTGAGES. IT ALSO SET UP THE FEDERAL HOUSING AUTHORITY (FHA) WHICH PROVIDED MONEY THROUGH BANKS AT LOW INTEREST FOR THE BUILDING OF NEW HOLMES. THIIS WAS A WAY TO KEEP NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION GOING AND TO STIMULATE THE HOUSING INDUSTRY. UNEMPLOYMENT IMMEDIATE HELP (RELIEF) (FERA) THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY RELIEF ACT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROVIDED MONEY TO STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES TO GIVE DIRECT RELIEF CHECKS TO THE UNEMPLOYED THEY ALSO CREATED THE CIVIL WORKS ADMINISTRATION (CWA) TO GIVE MONEY TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY JOBS TO THE UNEMLOYED. RAKING LEAVES, PAINTING PICTURES, SHOVELING SNOW, BUILDING SIDE WALKS, CLEANING PUBLIC BUILDINGS. THIS WAS PART OF PUMP PRIMING. ROOSEVELT CUT OFF THIS PROGRAM TO QUICKLY BEFORE THE PUMPS GOT STARTED. IT WAS LATER REPLACED BY THE (WPA) WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION STARTED IN 1935 CONTINUED TO DO SOME OF THESAM WORK AS THE CWA. UNEMPLOYMENT LONG TERM (RECOVERY) THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CREATED THE CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORE (CCC). THIS FEDERAL AGENCY WAS TO TAKE YOUNG MEN IN THEIR 20S OUT OF THE CITY AND HAVE THEM WORK IN LABOR CAMPS BUILDING PUBLIC PROJECTS IN THE COUNTRY SIDE. THEY WERE RUN LIKE THEY LIVED IN THE ARMY, IN LARGE CAMPS. THEY GOT PAID 25 DOLLARS A MONTH AND 20 OF IT WENT BACK TO THE FAMILIES. THEIR FOOD AND CLOTHING WAS PROVIDED FOR THEM.

NEW DEAL PROGRAM PG 3 Unemployment Long term The Civilian Conservation Core was one of the most popular things that Roosevelt ever did. And it was very successful. Public Works Administration (PWA) this governmental agency gave loans to state governments and developed long term projects which would employ people for large construction jobs such as building Hoover Dam and the Grand Coulee. They built court houses, roads, canals, federal building libraries Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) This federal Agency was set up to build 9 dams on the Tennessee river and 20 dams on subsidiary rivers to prevent flooding. It created jobs and developed jobs for recreation, created power plants which would bring in cheap electricity and bring in new factories because of the cheap electricity. It also created fertilizer plants to produce cheap products for the farmer
