Statistics: Describing Quantitative Data
Stem and Leaf Plot Review
2
Do Now: Complete the last problem in the histogram packet from yesterday. (The problem about PH Levels) Pass your journals forward to the front two tables.
3
Histograms Any last questions regarding histograms? !?!?!?!?!!?
Regarding anything this week?
4
Stem/Leaf Plots Regular Split Stem and Leaf Back-To-Back Stem and Leaf
Three Types: Regular Split Stem and Leaf Back-To-Back Stem and Leaf
5
Important Notes 1. You must have the same width for ALL stems
2. You must include ALL stems that are necessary, even if there are no leafs.
6
Example One: Create a stem and leaf display for these horsepowers of autos reviewed by consumer reports one year, and describe the distribution.
7
Split Stem/Leaf Example
In June 2004, 16 gas stations in Ithaca, NY, posted these prices for a gallon of regular gasoline. Create a stem and leaf display for the gas prices using split stems.
8
Back-To-Back Example A consumer organization compared gas mileage figures for several models of cars made in the United States with auto manufactured in other countries. The data is shown below: U.S Models: 16.9, 15.5, 19.2, 18.5, 30.0, 30.9, 20.6, 20.8, 18.6, 18.1, 17.0, 17.6, 16.5, 18.2, 26.5, 21.9, 27.4, 28.4, 28.8, 26.8, 33.5, 34.2 Others: 16.2, 20.3, 31.5, 30.5, 21.5, 31.9, 37.3, 27.5, 27.2, 34.1, 35.1, 29.5, 31.8, 22.0, 17.0, 21.6

Practice Examples Try some in small groups/on your own.
If you finish this packet– return to the histogram packet and finish the practice problems.
10
Exit Ticket Create a SPLIT stem and leaf plot for the following data:
10, 12, 11, 15, 18, 19, 20, 22, 21, 16, 18, 19, 23, 15, 6, 12
