Military members are required to maintain serviceable uniforms at all times

5. Grooming Standards for Males
Hair standards
Must be clean, well groomed, no excessive grooming aids, or foreign items
Dye should look natural
Hair will not touch eyebrows, ears or be visible below the front of your cap
Hair must have tapered appearance, block cut, shaved or high and tight
Will not exceed 1 1/4 inches in bulk

7. Grooming Standards for Females
Hair standards
Minimum length of 1 inch
No extreme or faddish styles
Dye should look natural
Hair cannot extend below back bottom edge of collar or exceed 3 inches in bulk
If hair would extend below collar must be pinned up with no loose ends – if too short to pin loose ends a pony tail can be worn, but cannot fall below bottom edge of collar
Must allow headgear to be worn properly
Keep hair in place with conservative pins, combs, headbands, elastic bands, or barrettes that are similar to your hair color

8. Grooming Standards for Females
Cosmetics – conservative, no extreme colors
Nail Polish – single color
that does not distinctly contrast
with skin color/uniform

9. Accessories Bracelets Rings- total of 3, no thumb rings
One around wrist, conservative, less than ½ inch wide, gold or silver
Not authorized – bracelets supporting a cause/philosophy the exception is POW/MIA bracelets
Rings- total of 3, no thumb rings
Necklaces – not visible

10. Accessories Earrings Body Piercing Males – no
Females – small, conservative, round white diamond, gold, white pearl or silver – only one set in lower earlobe
Body Piercing
In uniform (and at Armory/ROTC events) - never through nose, tongue, eyebrows, lips or exposed body part

11. Accessories Eyeglasses – not on neck, top or back of head or hanging
Sunglasses – logos same color as frame, small, conservative. Frames will be black, brown material or gold/silver wire
No mirrored lens
Handheld electronic devices - plain black, silver, dark blue or gray. No use of blue tooth technology while in uniform. No talking on cell phone while walking in uniform
Earphones – only in PT gear and when working out on own

12. Accessories
Gym Bags – Solid black or dark blue – when in ABUs can be olive drab, ABU patterned or sage green
Back Packs – Solid black – when in ABUs can be olive drab, ABU patterned or sage green
Can be worn on left or both shoulders
Purses – plain black and conservative
Umbrellas – plain black

13. When to wear the Uniform
Can wear ABUs or Blues to campus and off campus dining establishments
If the restaurant is ‘business attire’ either by dress code or general understanding can only wear Blues
Can wear to classes (required to all classes on Thursday, unless otherwise specified)

14. When to NOT wear the Uniform
Will not wear any uniform off campus to do extended shopping, dining, socializing or to take part in any form of entertainment
Not to any establishment who’s primary purpose is to server alcohol
Not to any establishment or in participation in any activity that might bring discredit upon the USAF or ROTC
While participating in pubic speeches, interviews, picket lines, marches or rallies or public demonstrations
Not while working in a off-duty, civilian capacity

16. USAF PT Uniform .
Headphones and earphones (IPODS) – not at AFROTC PT
All personal grooming standards apply while participating in physical fitness activities with one exception: long female hair will be secured but may have loose ends; body art (tattoos) and jewelry standards apply.
Proper military customs and courtesies honoring the flag during reveille/retreat will apply.
Saluting due to rank recognition is not required.
