Key Driver for Development / Business Requirement The Issue NHS currently spends more than £10bn every year on community services BUT Currently no way of accurately monitoring the quantity, the cost or the quality of these services; no national definitions or processes exist to collect and report common activity/ outcome data for local and/or national comparison HOWEVER Community services are strategically vital in enabling the shift of care from acute settings to deliver the government’s vision for world- class health outcomes and quality health services

Policy Drivers CIDS supports objectives of the following: The Coalition Government: Our Programme for Government Equality and Excellence: Liberating the NHS Revised NHS Operating Framework 2010/ 11 NHS Operating Framework 2011/12 NHS Standard Contract for Community Including: Improved Patient Choice Allied Health Professional Referral to Treatment (RTT) Any Qualified Provider Community Tariff Development/PbR

CIDS Overview Patient level secondary uses data set (output data set) NOT intended for primary use purposes i.e. direct patient care Includes patients in contact with Community Services (NHS Standard Community Contract) Covers entire community patient pathway i.e. referral to discharge Developed in conjunction with Expert Reference Group Aligns to existing NHS Data Dictionary and other national standards wherever possible Based on information routinely captured for primary use or local administration purposes

Preparing for Local Implementation Implementation Resource Pack available on The NHS Information Centre website prior to ISN: CIDS Data Set Specification CIDS Guidance Implementation Plan Template State of Readiness Assessment Tool FAQ’s Product Sheet These will support local implementation by enabling Providers of Community Services to: Map CIDS data items to current collection/systems Identify gaps in current collection/systems Develop strategy for capturing missing items including changing existing business processes/templates etc
