Psalm 19:7-11 THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD
2
2 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. (Psa. 19:7-11)

THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD David, the sweet psalmist of Israel, certainly held God’s word in high esteem (Psa. 19). What do you think about the Bible? –Is it really God’s word? –Is it everything we need to live an upright life? –Or do we need something else to supplement it? 3

Many today think we need something more. But this isn’t a new problem(Lk. 16:19-31). 10
11
THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD The word was sufficient for the rich man’s brethren. 11 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Lk. 16:27-31)
12
THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD God’s word will always accomplish what He wants! 12 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isa. 55:8-11)
13
THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD The Bible says God’s word is enough! Do you believe it? 13
14

16
SUFFICIENT TO DRAW PEOPLE It will be through His word! –Foretold by the prophets (Jn. 6:45; Isa. 2:2-3) and fulfilled (Acts 2). –God doesn’t need a gimmick to save people! –It will not be through the lust of the eyes, the flesh, or the pride of life! –It will be through His word and nothing else(Lk. 8:5-15)! 16
17
SUFFICIENT TO DRAW PEOPLE God’s word is sufficient to draw people! 17 “Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Th. 2:14)

20
SUFFICIENT TO SAVE PEOPLE If we believe that, why do we doubt the power of that word today? –God’s word has the power to save! (Rom. 1:16; Rom. 10:8-17) –God’s word enables us to be born again! (Jas. 1:18; 1 Pet. 1:23) –God’s word saves the soul! (Jas. 1:21) 20
21
SUFFICIENT TO SAVE PEOPLE God’s word is sufficient to save people! 21 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Tim. 3:15)
22

God’s word is sufficient to edify people! 24 “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” (Act 20:32)
25

THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD’S WORD All you have to do is to believe it and obey it! –If you will, you’ll be blessed – Mt. 7:24-25 –If you don’t, you don’t believe it – Mt. 7:26-27 31 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. (Mt. 7:24-25) And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Mt. 7:26-27)
