Exploring Rational Numbers
Objective: To identify a value by its classification in the real number system.
3
Rational and Irrational Numbers
Rational Number: is a number that can be expressed in the form π π , where a and b are integers and πβ 0. Rational Numbers are positive or negative numbers that are whole numbers, have a terminating decimal, or a repeating pattern decimal. Examples: 7, 1.25, 3.333

Rational and Irrational Numbers
Irrational Number: A number that cannot be expressed in the form π π , where a and b are integers and πβ 0. Irrational numbers have no specific pattern decimal. Example:
5
Rational Numbers Whole Numbers β consists of all positive whole numbers including zero. {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} Number Set β consists of a specific group of numbers listed from least to greatest. Example: {-1, 3, 5, 8}
6
Rational Numbers Integers: consists of all positive and negative whole numbers. (including zero) Example: {β¦-2, -1, 0, 1β¦} Natural Numbers: also known as βcounting numbersβ, are all positive whole numbers greater than one. Example: {1, 2, 3, 4β¦}
