COURSE DESCRIPTION: THIS COURSE INCLUDES THE BASICS OF SPORTS MEDICINE, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ASPECTS OF THE BODY, AND AN INTRODUCTION INTO POSSIBLE SPORTS MEDICINE-RELATED FIELDS, AS WELL AS INFECTION CONTROL, AND SETTING UP A SPORTS MEDICINE CLINIC.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR CLASS PENCIL PAPER PAPER FOLDER WITH BRATS AND POCKETS THIS IS A LECTURE AND GROUP WORK TYPE OF CLASS SO YOU WILL NEED YOUR SUPPLIES DAILY

CLASS OBJECTIVES THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: * IDENTIFY THE CONCEPTS OF SPORTS MEDICINE * UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RELATED FIELDS OF SPORTS MEDICINE * BE ABLE TO USE TECHNIQUES FOR ADMINISTERING FIRST AID TO INDIVIDUALS * IDENTIFY DIFFERENT INJURIES AND HELP TO ESTABLISH TREATMENT * ORGANIZE AND DEVELOP REPORTS ON VARIOUS SPORTS MEDICINE RELATED TOPICS. * DESIGN AND ORGANIZE PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAMS AS THEY RELATE TO REHABILITATION * EXPERIENCE A HANDS-ON OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH AN ASSIGNED TRAINER IN A WORKING SITUATION

CONTENT 1. CAREERS IN SPORTS MEDICINE AND ATHLETIC TRAINING 2. HANDS ONLY CPR 3. FITNESS INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT NUTRITION AND WT. MANAGEMENT PHYSICAL CONDITIONING AND DESIGNING A CONDITIONING PROGRAM 4. INJURIES AND FIRST AID (ASSESSING INJURIES AND DESIGNING A FIRST AID KIT)

CONTENT CONTINUED 5. INFECTION CONTROL/ASSESSMENT/REPORTING 6. ENVIRONMENTAL AND MEDICAL EMERGENCIES 7. TAPING, WRAPPING AND BRACING 8. THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

CLASSROOM RULES 1.BOOKS WILL BE USED DAILY 2. BUT PENCIL, PAPER, AND NOTEBOOK WILL BE BROUGHT EVERYDAY 3.BE ON TIME: IN ROOM, SEATED, WHEN BELL RINGS 4.NO PHONES DURING CLASS UNLESS INTERACTED BY TEACHER 5.NO EATING OR DRINKING IN ROOM, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WATER 6.PLEASE TURN EXCUSED NOTE IN WITHIN 2 DAYS 7.NO MISBEHAVIOR IN CLASS WILL BE TOLERATED

GRADING 50%- NOTE TAKING, NOTEBOOK, AND TESTS 10%- DAILY WORK 10%- SKILLS AND DEMONSTRATIONS USING FIRST AID PROCEDURES, BODY FAT TESTING, BLOOD PRESSURE, ETC. 10%- FIELD EXPERIENCE: GOING TO 3 ATHLETIC EVENTS AND WORKING WITH DR. OR TRAINER 10%- 2 PROJECTS (INDIVIDUAL AND PARTNER) 10%- FINAL EXAM

TARDY RULES YOU ARE CONSIDERED TARDY IF YOU ARE NOT IN CLASS AND SEATED WHEN THE BELL RINGS. THE FIRST TARDY IS A VERBAL WARNING, 2ND-4TH IS A DETENTION WITH TEACHER IN THE MORNING ALONG WITH A PARENT NOTIFICATION. TARDY 5 AND BEYOND IS AN OFFICE REFERRAL WHICH INCLUDES SATURDAY SCHOOL AND LOSS OF PARKING PASS.
