2 European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities
Supporting Europe's cities in getting smarter DG CONNECT, DG MOVE , DG ENER initiative The European Innovation Partnership for Smart Cities and Communities combines Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), energy management and transport management to come up with innovative solutions to the major environmental, societal and health challenges facing European cities today. With the aim of coming up with scalable and transferable solutions to contribute to the EU’s 20/20/20 climate action goals, it looks to reduce high energy consumption, green-house-gas emissions, bad air quality and congestion of roads. The Partnership aims to overcome bottlenecks impeding the changeover to smart cities, to co-fund demonstration projects and to help coordinate existing city initiatives and projects, by pooling its resources together. It ultimately looks to establish strategic partnerships between industry and European cities to develop the urban systems and infrastructures of tomorrow.

3 The EIP Smart Cities 'Philosophie'
ict  enabling effect  Districts and Built Environment Integrated Infrastructures Sustainable Mobility Tackle common challenges together (cities, industry, SMEs, academia) Develop innovative, replicable solutions Bundle the needs of cities and regions Include business and banks Create markets Triple bottom line gain for Europe EIP wants to integrate energy, transport and ICT sectors by connected all involved actors Cities are different but face similar challenges in these areas (sectors)> learn from each other and tackle them together Many solutions available, but need to be integrated and replicable > knowledge sharing Working together and sharing of experiences and ideas/ initiatives allows for joint procurement in future to bring down costs Money is available but demand and supply for financing have to work together, new business models for solutions Goal: social, environmental, economic sustainability

4 Action Clusters launched on 09 October 2014
Sustainable Urban Mobility Sustainable Districts & Built Environment Integrated Infrastructure & Processes, Data Citizen Focus how we build society into the process as an integral actor for transformation and beneficiary of gains Policy & Regulation, Integrated planning creating the enabling environment to accelerate improvement Business Models, Procurement & Funding integrating local solutions in an EU and global market Action Clusters to be launched in 2015 (tbc) Metrics & Indicators enabling cities to demonstrate performance gains in a comparable manner 6 action clusters launched on 09 October 2014 where committers met for the first time to share knowledge 2 action clusters to be launched in 2015 (standards; metrics & indicators), CSAs on both topics in H2020 focus area SC will deliver first mapping All commitments with full details published on online marketplace, serves also as online collaboration tool in the future Participants are invited to browse the commitments online and join the action clusters Roadmaps (next steps) are being established for all Action Clusters Next General Assembly on 21 May 2015, Berlin where first deliverables will be presented Standards providing the framework for consistency commonality and repeatability, without stifling innovation

8 Three key elements Methodologies & standards for the environmental impact assessment of ICT.

9 Methodologies for the assessment of the environmental impact of ICT:
Out of the research program (enabling effect of ICT): Gr Transport sector -> Methodology to evaluate the impacts of ITC/ITS measures on mobility, vehicle energy consumption and CO2 emissions (2013) Buildings -> The ICT PSP methodology for energy savings measurement (2011) Out of standardization organizations L1400 series: methodologies for the assessment of the environmental impact of ICT: L1410: Goods Networks and Services L1420: Organizations L1430: Projects *L1440: Cities Under ITU-T SG5: Environment and climate change - WP3 Q18 L.1400 : Overview and general principles of methodologies for assessing the environmental impact of information and communication Very active involvement of the EC with many contributions in all methodologies (GNS, organizations, projects), physical presence, e-meeting presence and finally accepting the chief editor role for the Cities methodology. In 2012 the EC facilitated the piloting of various methodologies* among which ITU-T L.1410, ETSI and ITU-T L Thereafter a request for a joint ITU-ETSI deliverable around GNS was introduced. Joint Methodology for Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of information and communication (ICT) goods, networks and services. Chief editor for L.ICT in Cities . Following work under this FG SSC Co-organizing with ITU-T some of the sessions at the Green Standards Week in Paris September 2012, in Genoa June 2014. Also following activities in other areas like Q17, Q16.
