2 Why the name Golden Gate? The Golden Gate Bridge was named “Chrysopylae” or Golden Gate, by John C. Fremont.

3 How long did it take to build the Golden Gate Bridge? It took just over 4 years. The construction started on January 5 th, 1933 and the construction was finished on April 19 th, 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge opened May 27 th, 1937.

4 Who made the bridge and designed it? What was the Design? The carpenters are Joseph Strauss, Ivring Morrow, and Charles Ellis. The carpenters also were the Architects. The design of the bridge is suspension, truss arch, & truss causeways.

5 How long is the bridge? Width? Height? Weight? Its about 1.7 miles long, with ranging from 4.5 to 7.5 knots. It is 8,981 feet ( 2,737 meters). The width is 90 feet (27.4 meters). Golden Gate Bridges height is 746 feet (227.4 meters). The weight is 894,500 tons!

6 Color of the bridge? It was just plain, old steel then the crew decided to paint it International Orange. They painted it that color because of aerospace industry to set things apart from their surroundings.

7 Location? This bridge is located in San Francisco ( Marin County). The address is Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA 94129.
