Area of Parallelograms & Triangles Jacob Shaffer March 31, 2014

Find the Perimeter of Disneyland

P = 2L + 2W Perimeter Formula of a Parallelogram P = 2 (3,500 ft) + 2 (2,500 ft) Substitute 3,500 ft for Length and 2,500 ft for width P = 7,000 + 5,000 Multiply P = 12,000 ft Add to find total perimeter

Area of a Parallelogram

Area Example Find the area of this parallelogram:

Area Problem 1 Find the area of the parallelogram: A) 15 in²C) 81 in² B) 45 in²D) 3 in²

Area Example Find the height of this parallelogram: If the width is 10 ft and the total area is 150 ft².

Area Problem 2 Find the width of this parallelogram: If the height is 7 ft and the area is 63 ft². A) 10 ftC) 56 ft B) 8 ftD) 9 ft

Area of a Triangle

Area Example Find the area of the triangle:

Area Problem 3 Find the area of this triangle: A) 84 cm²C) 42 cm² B) 19 cm²D) 168 cm²

Area Example Find the base length of this triangle: If the height is 8 in and the area is 40 in².

Area Problem 4 Find the height of this triangle: If the base measures 21 ft and the area measures 126 ft². A) 12 ftC) 24 ft B) 10 ftD) 105 ft

Homework PROMPT - (ON HANDOUT) Mr. Shaffer has just purchased a parcel of land totaling 25,000 square feet. He wants to open a small amusement park and would like you to design it. You can design it however you like, however Mr. Shaffer would like at least one small roller coaster (14,000 square feet), a Merry-Go-Round (100 ft x 100 ft), and a bumper cars ride (5,000 square feet). You can design this park anyway you like, but it must meet all requirements. Remember to label all your dimensions so that Mr. Shaffer knows how long and how wide each attraction must be when he builds it.

Find the Area of Disneyland

A = L * W Area formula for a parallelogram A = (3,500 ft) * (2,500 ft) Plug in 3,500 ft for length and 2,500 ft for width A = 8,750,000 ft² Multiply to find total area

Find the area of the upper right triangle of Disneyland

A = ½ (B * H) Area formula for a triangle A = ½ (3,500 ft * 2,500 ft) Plug in 3,500 ft for base and 2,500 ft for height A = ½ (8,750,000 ft²) Multiply base times height A = 4,375,000 ft² Multiply by ½ to get total area
