Marian Anderson Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1897 but she said to people that her birthday was February 17, 1902. When Marian was 13 years old, she joined the senior choir at church and began visiting other churches. She became so famous that people began to invite her to sing for them. Marian Anderson is famous because she is the first America Died on April 8,1993 at age 96

BESSIE COLEMAN Born in Atlanta, Texas On January 26, 1892 but said she was four years younger being born in 1896 Her other brother John, a world war I veteran, said that all French women where better in almost everything, they could even fly airplanes. This made Bessie dream of "amounting to something" and her brother's talking so much about flying airplanes inspired her to become a pilot. Bessie is famous for being the first African American women to be a pilot, and get her pilots licenses Died April 30, 1926 at age 34

Sally Hemings Born in Virginia In the year of 1773 She was the first African American who sacrificed her freedom from slavery for the love of President Thomas Jefferson Sally Hemings was the personal servant to Thomas Jefferson's daughter, Mary, later known as Maria. Died 1835 in Virginia

Bessie Smith Born April 15 in Chattanooga, Tenn. In the year of 1894 Revolutionized the vocal end of blues music in the 1920s with her rich voice and has influenced generations of musicians. Her records sold excellently and she became a major attraction in vaudeville. Died Sept. 26 1937, at age 43 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Madam C. J. Walker Real name is Sarah Breedlove Born December 23 In the year of 1867 Madam Walker was an entrepreneur who built her empire developing hair products for black women. Died May 25, 1919 in New York, New York
