The word hick originated from in the late 14 century. It began as a nickname for Richard from the period of Middle English. By 1700 it came to mean an “awkward provincial person.” It is recorded as an adjective by 1914 Now the word as a noun means an unsophisticated person; as an adjective it means an unsophisticated area. Sentence: The hicks came to town riding in the back of the truck yelling “yee-haw” and shooting their shotguns.

You will be in groups of 3-4 depending on class size. Your group is responsible for developing a list of 10-15 slang or new English terms. These are words that have a different meaning than they may have had 10 years ago or words that did not exist 10 years ago such as the word google used as a verb You will be creating a dictionary for these words

Each entry will need the following items Word Pronunciation Definition Part of speech The dictionary can be set up in any format you like: on paper, in a book, digitally, flashcards, etc. Use your creativity. Everyone must have his/her own responsibilities for the project. You may decide how you wish to divide these responsibilities. You need at least two illustrations for your dictionary. These can be drawn, cut out, or computer generated.
