Long term effects of Alcohol Long term negative effects of alcohol can hurt your health from head to toe. What alcohol does is create havoc in your body and mind. It is addicting. There are also short term effects of alcohol. But its long term side effects are more harmful, especially if you also smoke cigarettes.

Binge Drinking Binge drinking is a common pattern of excessive alcohol use. This happens when men consume 5 or more drinks, and women consume 4 or more drinks, in about 2 hours.

Facts About Binge Drinking Binge drinkers are 14 times more likely to report alcohol- impaired driving than non-binge drinkers. About 90% of the alcohol consumed by youth under the age of 21 in the United States is in the form of binge drinks.

Binge drinking is associated with many health problems Unintentional injuries (e.g., car crashes, falls, burns, drowning). Intentional injuries (e.g., firearm injuries, sexual assault, domestic violence). Alcohol poisoning. Children born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. High blood pressure, stroke, and so on Liver disease. Neurological damage. Poor control of diabetes.

Why Do People Binge Drink? get caught up in a social scene with lots of peer pressure. They're curious — they want to know what it's like to drink alcohol. They believe that it will make them feel good, not realizing it could just as easily make them sick and hung- over. They may look at alcohol as a way to reduce stress, even though it can end up creating more stress. They want to feel older.
