Patient Description These facilities mainly have elderly patients, called residents. Individuals with disabilities/ handicaps Individuals with chronic or long term illnesses.

Services Provided Residential care facilities: for people that cannot care of themselves. Basic care is provided. Extended care facilities: provides skilled nursing care. Prepare patients for return to home environment. Assisted living: individuals who can care for themselves can purchase an apartment in the facility. Provides services such as meals, laundry, transportation etc.

Cost On average, a year of long term health care can cost $50,000. In some regions, it can easily be double that. The average monthly fee is around $2,000. But with the separate cost of physical therapy and other side treatments, it can turn out to be very expensive.

Type of Employees MMany nurses work in these kind of facilities. Also, there are properly trained social workers and supportive personal to boost the moral of the patients inside. AAll services are provided by social workers with experience in long-term care and master’s degree in social working.

Misc. Most long term health care facilities offer special services such as the delivery of meals to the homes of the elderly, chronically ill, or people with disabilities. Some facilities offer senior citizen day care centers, which provide social activities for the elderly. The need for long term health care facilities has increased dramatically because of the increase in elderly people. Many health career opportunities are available in these facilities and there is a shortage of nurses and other personnel.
