4 BRIEFLY TO THE ROOTS Techmania - partner for education www.techmania.eu 2005 – 2008 The beggining of „Techmania Science Center“ project Name of institution: Regional technical museum Founders: SKODA – the transportation company WEST BOHEMIAN UNIVERSITY GREAT IDEA: Intention to build in the industrial area SKODA an interactive museum; known in the world as SCIENCE CENTER. REASONS FOR ESTABLISHING: TO increase the interest of technical and science studies in Pilsen region TO communicate a popularize the scientific research and innovations from West Bohemian University and from Pilsen region. TO keep the SKODA technical heritage in Pilsen region A PRIORY REASON FOR ESTABLISHING: The economic aspects of the long-term development strategy of the region. To increase the interest in technical subjects and science among young people will bring long-term growth of technically equipped manpower in region.

6 BRIEF DATA Techmania - partner for education www.techmania.eu Launch: November 4, 2008 Number of visitors since launch: 280 000 Size of exhibition space currently: 3000 m2 Target groups: parents with children 50% of visiters School groups 25% of visiters VIP 2% of visiters (decision and policy makers, business partners, experts) Extending Techmania Science Center in the years 2011 - 2014 Investment: over 23 000 000 EUR Autumn 2013 opening of the building 3D Planetarium Spring 2014 opening of the main building science center Estimated attendance for extension: 200 000 per annum Size of the exhibition area after completion: 10 000 m2

13 KEY MILESTONES Techmania - partner for education www.techmania.eu KEY CONTRACT MINISTRY OF EDUCATION Grant for reconstruction science center and construction 3D Planetarium In total investment 23 000 000 EUR Financed mostly from the EU programme. /Besides the Techmania the another 8 institutions /science learning centers and visit centers/ in Czech Republic are drawing the finances for their construction or reconstuction at this moment./
