3  NCAA recertification called for an easier and more productive way to evaluate info collected from senior exit interviews  Sr. exit interview process (pre-fall 2008)  Sr. S-A met with sport supervisor  Asked a series of open ended questions  Notes were kept and filed  If issues came up and were consistent among the S-A’s, they were addressed by upper administration  Head coaches were evaluated based on info from interviews

4  Current method:  Online Survey was developed and initiated fall of 2008  Contains 42 questions  Takes about 10-15 minutes to complete  All senior student-athletes are emailed the link and details of the survey  Topics include: Time Demands, Coaches, Academics, General and Administration (including sports medicine, S&C, Compliance, etc..)  Fall there was not tracking of who took the survey, this semester it is tracked and the Compliance Office can place a hold on their account until they complete the survey  Sr. exit interview process was updated  Sr. S-A met with sport supervisor  Asked a series of open ended questions  Notes were kept and filed  If issues came up and were consistent among the S-A’s, they were addressed by upper administration  Head coaches were evaluated based on info from interviews

5  Highlights of the Online Survey  15 senior student athletes have completed the online survey since it has been initiated.  Positives Responses:  80% agree that faculty have a positive attitude towards student athletes  53% Agree and 47% Strongly Agree that Head Coaches place sufficient emphasis on academics  100% stated that usually or always students of diverse backgrounds are treated with respect within the athletic department  Level of satisfaction in the following areas:  12% Poor and 43% Fair for locker rooms, meeting space, etc.  20% Poor and 33% Fair on assistance with Career Development  47% stated that they would not attend NAU again if being recruited today  The results can be sorted by a number of variables such as gender, sport, ethnicity, scholarship, etc..

7  Broader range of physician choices  Dr. Hershey, Team Physician  Dr. Monica Radloff, worked with Volleyball team fall 2007 and 2008  Working with Summit Center to contract with Dr. Radloff permanently

8  Women’s programs have made competitive strides:  Women’s Soccer – 2008 Big Sky Champions and first time in history to go to the NCAA Tournament  Women’s Golf – 2009 Big Sky Champions (first time since 2001)  Other programs accomplishments:  Men’s and Women’s Cross Country 2008 Big Sky Champions  Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track 2009 Big Sky Champions  Potential 1 st ever double triple crown in NAU and Big Sky Conference history  Gold Axe recipients:  Ali Carter, Golf  Maria Hechanova, Swim & Dive  Elizabeth Brook, Swim & Dive (Top senior for FCB)  Golden Eagle  164 Student-Athletes received the Golden Eagle Award (3.0 GPA or better)  Other  Facility Upgrades: Scores Tables for Volleyball, Golf hitting & putting facility, Changing/Meeting room for Soccer at Lumberjack, New turf – great for training for all sports  New employees: Kim Bruno named Director of Tennis and head coach of both Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs, hired 2 new female assistants with one being minority.
