Year 10 Work Experience

Information Work Experience for ALL Year 10s starts on Monday 27 th June Everyone does one week so will be back in school on Monday 4 th July EXCEPT for Health and Social Care students who do two weeks and will be due back into school on Monday 11 th July

Why work experience? To understand and become familiar with the world of work To practice skills e.g. able to work independently To gain more knowledge of a possible interest To improve your motivation towards your studies

Why work experience? To give you something to talk about in interviews and on application forms To get good references when you apply for colleges, courses and jobs To investigate what you might or might not want to do as a career

Options You can find your own work experience or if your parents have contacts then they might be able to help you find one This is a really good idea particularly if there is a definite type of job you want to do The company must have in place Employers and Public Liability Insurance though – they will be able to tell you this Calderdale and Kirklees will then do a visit If you want to do this option then you need to fill in the placement details section on the back of the form

Options If you want Calderdale and Kirklees careers to find one a placement for you then it is really important to think about the type of work you would like to do Complete section 6 where you will be asked to choose 5 job areas in order of preference – it is important you do this don’t just tick 5. Even if you are finding your own you should still complete this section

Work Experience Forms Forms must be completed carefully – your tutor will help you complete most of it Forms must be signed by you and your parents/carers – incomplete forms cannot be accepted You need to bring them in to your tutor If in doubt, ASK If you lose it see Miss Procter for a replacement
