End of Year 8 th Grade Information Class of 2019

General Statement All 8 th grade end of year activities are privileges. You do not have the RIGHT to attend a trip, dance, or ceremony. If you are not abiding by the rules and dress code put forth by your administration, you will not participate.

Pinecrest Visit Wednesday, March 25 th Bus will depart from SMS at approx. 9:00-- be on time for school! We will return around 12:00. You will wear your class t-shirt! If you are out of dress code that day, you will not come with us! You will hear from Pinecrest counselors, students, and principals about classes and get a tour. On March 27th, your class registration sheets will be due (They will be given to you on the 23 rd in Social Studies classes).

8 th Grade Dance Saturday May 16 th, 6-9pm (tentative time). Cost is $10 (snacks are free). You cannot buy a ticket for 8 th grade dance if you have outstanding school fees (of any type!). If you are suspended full day (ISS/OSS) any time after Spring Break, you will not be allowed to attend the dance. You must adhere to the dress code or you will not be allowed in the building (shown in detail on following slides).

8 th Grade Dance Dress Code – Pants/Shirts/Suits Pants must be dress slacks. No jeans! Shirts must be button-up dress shirts. No t- shirts! Suits/jackets are encouraged. Ties are encouraged. Dress shoes are encouraged, but sneakers are allowed as long as they are clean.

8 th Grade Dance Dress Code- Dresses SMS dance dress code is not the same as Moore County prom dress code. Dresses must have sleeves, following the 3-finger width rule. You can wear a shawl or cover-up to meet the requirements, but you are then required to wear that all night. No midriffs or cut outs. No cleavage or under garments showing Dress must be at least mid-thigh, even when walking and dancing. Make sure it is something that won’t ride up! This includes slits.

Promotion Thursday, June 11 th 8:30am-9:30am ceremony. Parents need to be seated by 8:15. 9:30-10:00 reception- time to receive report card (if all fees are paid- class dues, cafeteria, sports, band…). If you are unsure if you owe, please have your parents call the front office. You are required to leave campus after the reception. There will be no buses for 8 th graders. You will be given a designated number of tickets-- Information to come in the next couple of weeks. You will not participate if you are a summer school or a retention candidate; determined during last 2 weeks of school. You must abide by the promotion dress code (next slides).

Promotion Dress Code- Males Black or khaki slacks Dress shoes or clean black tennis shoes- no dirty sneakers! White button down shirt Tie required If you cannot get these items, please see a teacher privately so that we can arrange donations.

Promotion Dress Code- Females White dress or white skirt and white top Shoulders and cleavage must be covered, with sleeves or cover up (white) No cut outs Dress must be mid-thigh or longer, including slits Dress shoes- any color, but no HIGH heels (also no dirty sneakers) If you cannot get these items, please tell a teacher privately so that we can arrange donations.
