Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) A Soldiers Resource For Paying For School

Qualifications Active duty, active drill status in guard or reserve (no ING or IRR) High School diploma or GED Cannot be on any ROTC scholarship (tuition or housing) Officers and enlisted 1 Year from AIT/BOLC graduation date 10 Years Service for Masters (is FTA used for undergraduate)

!!WARNING!! WO2 and above incur a 2 year service obligation for active/AGR; 4 year for traditional guard and reserve Obligation begins last day of last TA funded course

What Does TA Pay For? $250 per credit hour, 16 per year cap 130 undergraduate semester hours 39 graduate/certificate hours First Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Certificate. One degree (no double majors)

State Tuition Assistance STAP can be use concurrently with FTA Soldiers must apply for FTA first Attach FTA Approval Form to request

GI Bill CH 1606/1607 CANNOT be used concurrently with FTA CH 30/33 CAN be used concurrently with FTA

Recoupment C> = Recoupment Bachelors B> = Recoupment Masters I after 120 days = Recoupment W for Personal reasons Schools have 45 days to enter grade

17 Withdraw for Military Reasons 1.Unanticipated military mission, to include unanticipated Federal or State missions for National Guard Soldiers who are involuntarily mobilized 2.Emergency leave 3.Death of a family member 4.Illness/hospitalization as endorsed by my Battalion Commander or first LTC in the chain of command; or by my Unit Commander if in the Reserve Component for each class. **3 years from course end date to request WM** IMPORTANT! You are required to initiate all drops and withdrawals from classes through GoArmyEd PRIOR to the class end date.

Soldier Responsibility Time Restrictions FTA requests can be submitted up to 60 days prior to course start date Course requests MUST be APPROVED before course start date Requests must be submitted 10 days prior to course start date If a course is requested even one day late, FTA cannot be approved

Solder Responsibility Read and understand the Statement of Understanding Signed and uploaded to GAE annually

Soldier Responsibility Degree Plan After 6 SH, Soldiers need to upload degree plan to Course Planner Online degree audits from student account does not need signature
