Materials:  3 ½ floppy disk Note: All exercises should be saved in your data disk and must be submitted to your instructor after every laboratory session. Files to be used:  Activity5xxx.ppt Basic Information: The Slide Master By changing the formatting (font style, font size, color, and/or position) of text or object placeholders on Slide Masters, all slides are automatically reformatted uniformly throughout the presentation. If, for example, you wanted to include clip art as your company’s logo or a saying or quote on all slides in your presentation, you would include it on the Slide Master, and it will then appear on all slides of your presentation. It controls the overall appearance of a slide – the background color, font style, or any reoccurring text or pictures. If you add, for example, the date, time, and page number to a slide master, the date, time, and page number are added to every one of your slides. Anything you wish to delete from the slide master will be deleted from all the slides as well. Few terms that apply specifically to areas on the Slide Master are described below: Viewing the Slide Master The Slide Master is accessed through the View menu. By selecting Master from this menu, a submenu appears. After making the desired changes on the Slide Master, click on Slide view and display each slide in the presentation to see their effects. You may need to make adjustments to the Slide Master after seeing the effects on individual slides. Adding Page Number, Date, and Time using Header and Footer Slides can have header and footer just like word documents. Slide header and footer often contain information such as page number, the date, or the time. Since this is the type of information that would appear on every page, using the Slide Master is ideal.

2 Laboratory Exercise 4 – Working with Templates and Master Slides Office Productivity Tools 2 Applying a Color Scheme Color Schemes are set coordinated colors you can use in your presentation. You can also use them for charts and tables and to recolor pictures you add to slides. Each design template comes with a set of color schemes. It determines the background color, text, lines, shadows, and fill colors. However, an existing color scheme can also be modified to suit your tastes in colors. Applying a Different Background You can change the appearance of your slide background by changing its color, shade, pattern, or texture to produce a more dramatic effect. You can also use a picture as a slide background, but you can use only one type of background on a slide master. For example — you can have a shaded background, a textured background, or a picture as the background, but you can use only one of these on a single slide. When you change the background, you can apply the change to only the current slide or to all the slides and the slide master. Applying Design Templates Design templates are files that contain the styles in a presentation, including the type and size of bullets and fonts; placeholder sizes and positions; background design and fill color schemes; and a slide master and optional title master. This can help your presentation to be more stylish and somehow adds beauty when presenting. Activity #7 Work with Templates and Master Slides 1. Open the file Activity5xxx.ppt. 2.
