3 What is HIPPY? Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters  HIPPY is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their three, four, and five year old children for success in school and beyond.  The parent is provided with a set of carefully developed curriculum, books and materials designed to strengthen their children's cognitive skills, early literacy skills, social/emotional and physical development. 4 The HIPPY Model The Family Place 4 Key Features of the HIPPY Model 1. Developmentally appropriate curriculum 2. Role play as the method of teaching 3. Staffed by home visitors from the community and supervised by a professional coordinator 4. Weekly home visits interspersed with group meetings as the delivery methods. A model HIPPY site serves up to 180 children with one coordinator and 12-18 part-time home visitors.

7 DOH Assessments These assessments were chosen according to HRSA requirements for the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program. 1. Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale 2. Early Childhood Home 3. Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI) 4. Parenting Stress Index 5. Ages and Stages Questionnaire 6. Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional 7. Abusive Behavior Inventory The Family Place

8 DOH Data Base  Designed to measure the HRSA Benchmarks  Tailored specifically to HIPPY USA requirements  Active creation, implementation, and troubleshooting IT team The Family Place

9 Successes and Challenges The Family Place SuccessesChallenges Recruitment and retention of at-risk families. Recruiting families in specific wards rather than based on risk factors.
