14 REFRAMING TESTS = A demonstration of what you know TESTS = A demonstration of what you know QUIZZES = An opportunity to find out what you know and what you need to learn; self-assessment ASSIGNMENTS = A method to practice, ask questions, and form your understanding of the concepts WORK HABITS = A chance to tease apart the understanding of the content and “work-habits” COMMENTS = Remark on behaviour & achievement

15 How do I assess and evaluate students? 100% TESTS…an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the learning outcome Retesting Allowed with a LEARNING INTERVENTION Quizzes are done in test conditions, corrected in-class Daily Assignments are checked for completion Work Habits are about WORK HABITS Can improve overall grade with the FINAL EXAM

20 My Findings Assessment is tightly integrated with my instruction FEAR-FREE LEARNING = Academic Risk-Taking Students are motivated to learn and it’s fun Students are motivated to learn and it’s fun Students learn more about their learning & the subject Students are more willing and able to self-assess Reframing is needed to become part of the culture STUDENTS DEMAND TO DO BETTER… to learn more!!!
