10. S HIH TZU They originated in China. Weight Male 8.8–16 lb Female 8.8–16 lb Height Male 7.9–11 in Female 7.9–11 in They are very friendly lap dogs, but can be very protective.

9. P OODLE They originated in Germany. These dogs are very smart, active, and sweet. They only come in 3 sizes: standard, mini, and toy The ‘poodle clip’ was designed by hunters to help these dogs move through the water better better.

8. B ULLDOG Originated in the British Isles Very friendly and docile. Not as aggressive and people think. Were mainly bread for ‘bullbaiting’ a gambling sport where the dogs latched onto a bulls mouth and tried to suffocate it. Said to be a cross between a Mastiff and a Pug.

7. D ACHSHUND Originated in Germany Was bred to get badgers out of their burrows Often called weiner dogs or sausage dogs Playful and fairly smart but very stubborn. Which makes them difficult to train. Very loyal and make great watch dogs!

6. B OXER Originated in Germany Bred form an english bulldog and Bellenbeisser (extinct now) Got the name from how they move their front paws when they play They are extremely active, playful, energetic, and itnelligent!!

5. B EAGLE Originated in Great Britain Were bred to track rabbits and other game. Very popular in detection work with police because of their keen sense of smell. Friendly, docile dogs but can be distracted easily because of smells around them.

4. G OLDEN R ETRIEVER Originated in Scotland They are a gundog breed used to retrieve water fowl. Very friendly, intelligent, eager-to-please, and very very playful active dogs. Incredibly easy to train

3. G ERMAN S HEPHERD Originated in Germany Bread as herding dogs Very intelligent, obedient, and protective Excellent dog for police and military roles Known for their aggression and have been banned in some places in the U.S. as a result.

2. Y ORKSHIRE T ERRIER Originated in Yorkshire, England Often called ‘Yorkies’ They do not shed as much as other dogs, which is good for people with allergies They are active, intelligent, and sometimes can be bold Bred from Paisley Terrier and the Skye Terrier, both of which are extinct.

1. L ABRADOR Has been the number one dog for 16 years in a row! Originated in Canada Bred from Newfoundland & Labrador Gundog used to retrieve waterfowl 3 types of labs: Yellow, Black, and Chocolate Very friendly. Intelligent, easy to train, great with kids and families

B ORDER C OLLIE Originated in Northnumberland, along the borders of Scotland and England Are considered the worlds best herding dogs They are extremely active, friendly, loving and affectionate. And sometimes can be protective over their human family. They also are very intelligent dogs, making them very easy to train.
