3 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 3 Objectives Create Themes  A document that you create in Word is based on the Normal.dotm template.  This template provides your document with default layout, formatting, styles, and theme formatting.  The default template provides a number of built-in or predesigned themes.  You have used some of these built-in themes to apply colors, fonts, and effects to content in documents.  The same built-in themes are available in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

4 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 4 Objectives Create Themes - continued  A theme is a stylized combination of colors, fonts, and effects.  Within a theme, you can change one or all of these elements with buttons in the Document Formatting group on the DESIGN tab.  You can switch from the default theme (called Office) to one of the built-in themes or you can create your own custom theme.  A theme you create will display in the Themes drop-down gallery in the Custom section.

5 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 5 Objectives Create Custom Theme Colors To create custom theme colors: 1. Click the DESIGN tab. 2. Click the Theme Colors button in the Themes group. 3. Click the Customize Colors option. 4. Select the new background, accent, or hyperlink colors. 5. Type a name for the custom color theme. 6. Click the Save button. Customize Colors option

7 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 7 Objectives Create Custom Theme Colors - continued  After you have made all of the desired changes to the theme colors, click in the Name text box, type a name for the set of custom theme colors, and then click the Save button.  This saves the custom theme colors and also applies the color changes to the active document. 9 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 9 Objectives Create Custom Theme Colors - continued  When you click a color button in the Create New Theme Colors dialog box, color sets display in columns in a color palette.  If you want more control over what colors display, click the More Colors option that displays at the bottom of the color palette.  This displays the Colors dialog box, which contains two tabs: a Standard tab and a Custom tab. 10 © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 10 Objectives Create Custom Theme Colors - continued Custom tab  With the Custom tab selected, click the desired color in the color square and fine-tune the color by dragging the slider button (left-pointing arrow) on the vertical slider bar that displays at the right side of the color square.  Each value for a particular color is represented by a number range of 0 to 255. This number range indicates how much red, green, and blue are combined to form a specific color.

Click the Customize Fonts option. 4. Choose the desired fonts. 5. Type the name for the custom theme fonts. 6. Click the Save button. Customize Fonts option
