3 Action 1  Integrated masters or doctorate programme  Developed and delivered by a consortium of universities located in at least three European countries  Co-ordinated by a European university (non- European universities can be partners)  Full scholarships for Masters students and doctoral candidates; grants for scholars for EMMCs  Consortium receives EUR 30k / 50k per year for management

4 Erasmus Mundus Action 2  Large partnerships between universities from the EU and universities from a specific region  Regions and lots defined according to DEVCO/ELARG/EEAS priorities in regions/countries  Scholarships of 1 month to 3 years for bachelor, master, doctorate, post-doctorate students + HE staff  Mobility not linked to specific programmes  Adressing different target groups including vulnerable groups  Integration of cross-cutting issues  Partnerships receive management fee of EUR 20,000 x number of partners

5 Erasmus Mundus – Action 3  Attractiveness projects  Studies  Can address key areas for international HE cooperation, including third-country/regional priorities  Erasmus Mundus Alumni Association

6 6 Erasmus Mundus to date  123 EMMCs and 24EMJDs offering scholarships 2011  116 A2 partnerships selected, 2007 - 2010  HEIs involved: 365 EU, 194 non-EU (A1)  HEIs involved: 256 EU, 566 non-EU (A2)  Action 1 scholarships:  12,000 Masters students, 1,600 Masters scholars  240 Doctoral fellows selected  Action 2 scholarships: 20,500 mobilities organised or planned (2007-2010 selections)

7 Follow-up and monitoring  A2 projects report on gender, vulnerable groups, anti-brain drain, sustainability  ROM assessment of individual partnerships in specific regions  Evaluation of programme and certain individual lots  All A2 lots decided subject to annual decisions on funding (Action fiche review)  Graduate Impact Survey, Employability cluster  Now interim evaluation of programme

8 Capacity-building for individuals  Addresses need for PhD-level staff in 3Cs  Training, particularly at postgrad levels, in agreed areas for cooperation  All joint programmes and partnerships must display relevance  Also internships in organisations / companies (associate partners)  Vulnerable groups addressed through TG3

9 Building capacities for institutions  helps to internationalise HE in third countries  contributes to building institutional partnerships on equal basis between EU and third countries and among third countries  shares good practices  teaching methods and approaches have been modified  concrete benefits from HE to reducing poverty

10 Building capacities for institutions  participation in design and management of joint programmes  involvement in key issues for international higher education cooperation: accreditation, recognition, student mobility  joint programmes address a range of issues shared on global level (environmental sciences, agriculture and food, urban development)
