1 This is an independent activity.
Warm-Up Using the paper at your desk: Please write your name List the 6 levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy This is an independent activity. No sharing PLEASE!

2 Bloom’s Taxonomy

3 STANDARD RVMS 2.5 Understand the various levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy and incorporate each level into lesson design and instructional practice.

4 OBJECTIVE My objective today is:
To analyze Bloom’s Taxonomy and discuss a variety of ways it can be used daily to enhance my classroom instruction.

5 FRONTLOADING! Blooms Taxonomy was originally created Benjamin Bloom for categorizing and classifying the levels of intellectual learning that commonly occur in the classroom setting. It is important that teachers do not just teach lower order thinking skills at the bottom of Blooms Taxonomy such as knowledge and comprehension, but also teach higher order thinking skills at the top of blooms taxonomy such as synthesis and evaluation.  When students are using the higher order thinking skills they are more likely to retain information, perform better on standardized tests, and most importantly, achieve the ultimate goal of becoming lifelong learners.

8 Think-Pair-Share Think about the following questions:
How can this Bloom’s Taxonomy chart be used during lesson planning? How can the chart be used during instruction? How can the chart be used to increase the RIGOR of a lesson? Turn to your elbow partner and discuss your responses (1 minute). Be prepared to share out with the group.

9 OBJECTIVE Activity Create 6 lesson objectives using a current or upcoming grade level standard. Each objective will address the same standard. Each objective must involve a different level of Bloom’s Taxonomy (don’t forget to use the appropriate verbs). You have 10 minutes Be prepared to share your objectives with the group.

10 Social Studies Example
6.5.5 – Know the life and moral teachings of Buddha and how Buddhism spread in India, Ceylon, and Central Asia. Knowledge Comprehension Application Analysis Synthesis Evaluation Describe the life of Buddha Explain how the teaching of Buddha impacted others. Determine how the teachings of Buddha spread throughout many countries Prioritize The Eightfold Path and The Four Noble Truths as they relate to your life. Rewrite The Four Noble Truths for the 21st Century, and create a new version of The Eightfold Path Debate whether Hinduism or Buddhism had a greater impact on the culture of India.

11 Math Example AF 1.3 Simplify numerical expressions by applying properties of rational numbers. (Distributive process) Knowledge Comprehension Application Analysis Synthesis Evaluation Match the expression with the process you would use to solve Compare and Contrast the distributive, associative, and commutative process. Illustrate the distributive process and label its parts. How could you distinguish between the distributive and commutative process. Rewrite the expression using the distributive process. Justify your answer using the distributive method.

12 OBJECTIVE Activity Create 6 lesson objectives using a current or upcoming grade level standard. Each objective should address the same standard. Each objective must involve a different level of Bloom’s taxonomy (don’t forget to use the appropriate verbs). You have 10 minutes Be prepared to share your objective with the group.
