2. What do you know? What are Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion? – Discuss your ideas with your table

3. Read pages 598-604 Read pages 598-604 in the green Textbook …pay attention to the diagrams and examples of each of the laws 10 minutes (Silently!)

4. Newton’s 1 st Law of Motion An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by an outside force. Example: A golf ball will remain at rest on a tee until it is acted on by the unbalanced force of the moving golf club.

5. Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of an object and the amount of force applied. Force =Mass x Acceleration (F=M x A) EXAMPLE: An empty grocery cart requires less force to move it then a cart filled with groceries.

6. Newton’s 3 rd Law of Motion For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Example: As the swimmer’s hands push on the water (action force), the water pushes back on the hands (reaction force), moving the swimmer forward.

7. JE #3: Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion 4/22 Look at the pictures below and decide how they demonstrate Newton’s 3 Laws of motion. Record your answers in your science binder…give details!

10. Demonstrating Your Understanding of Newton’s Laws Use the paper provided by your teacher to draw, color, title and explain an example demonstrating each of Newton’s 3 Laws. You may not use any examples from the textbook or those discussed in class, or those of your tablemates. Include a difference example/picture for each law.
