In 1949 China became a COMMUNIST COUNTRY “The People’s Republic of China” – Red China Mao Zedong was the Party Chairman and President of the CCP. Chou En Lai was Prime Minister.

China became a ONE PARTY STATE All other parties were suppressed - WHY? Mao didn’t want any opposition to the CCP. All of Mao’s rivals were dismissed - WHY? So that there was no opposition to Mao – he was in charge. Any one against Communism was labelled “counter-revolutionary” All GMD supporters were converted or killed e.g.65,000 killed in Guangzhou 28,000 killed in Shanghai Churches were shut and religion banned – WHY? Mao wanted to be the only God people worshipped so that anti Communist ideas could not be spread
