What did you Learn? 1. What was a Shogun? Who was the first Shogun , and how did he gain his position of Power? A Shogun was a Military ruler for emperor of Japan. The first Shogun was Minamoto Yoritomo and he was appointed by the Emperor. The Emperor hoped it would keep him loyal to the Emperor.

What did you Learn? 2. What prevented the Mongol conquest of Japan?
The Mongol Empire’s attack on Japan was Halted when a Typhoon, violent storm, Hit the archipelago. This typhoon smashed the Mongol ‘s ships and killed Thousands of men. They named these Typhoons “Kamikazes” which mean “Divine Wind”.

4. Describe Describe events related to the growth of Buddhism in Japan. Prince Shotoku sent officials to China to study government. Nobles accept Buddhism and then the common people. The mixing of Buddhism and Shinto.

5. Explain Why did the power of the Japanese emperors decline during the 800s C.E.? The Regents refused to give up their power, while nobles gained power and formed personal armies

6. Analyze How did the beliefs of the Samurai affect the Japanese soldiers during World War II? The Soldiers refuse to lose and never surrender attitude is what guided them during the war. They will fight to the death and would never be captured. Bushido code Kamikaze pilots
