The District Committee on Ordained Ministry ¶666 2012 Discipline Amenable to the Annual Conference through the Board of Ordained Ministry (¶666.1) Representative from each dCOM serves on the BOM (¶635.1g) Subcommittee of the BOM (¶635.1g) Supervises candidacy for all persons (¶666.5) Supervises matters related to licensing for local pastors (¶666.5)

dCOM Responsibilities - ¶666 Detailed responsibilities listed in ¶666 New requirements from General Conference: Assign candidacy mentor (with DS and Vocational Discernment Coordinator) to all candidates for licensed (Local Pastor) or ordained (Deacon/Elder) ministry Develop a program for group candidacy mentoring wherever possible Work with Vocational Discernment Coordinator to assign candidate to a candidacy mentoring group

dCOM Membership - ¶666.1 District Superintendent At least three professing members of local churches BOM Representative At least six other clergy in district When possible include Deacon or Elder younger than 35 Associate member May include One local pastor who has completed Course of Study

Candidacy Requirements ¶310.1 2012 Discipline Complete High School (or equivalent) 1 year membership or participation Request admissions to candidacy Assigned to candidacy mentoring group or candidacy mentor (¶349, ¶635) Recommended by S/PPRC or equivalent body Write statement of call and be interviewed in light of Wesley’s historic questions (¶310.1d) Approved by 2/3 written ballot of charge conference or other appropriate body

Becoming Certified ¶310.2a 2012 Discipline Submit written response to Wesley’s Historic Questions in ¶310.1d and written information including: Most formative experience of Christian life God’s call to licensed or ordained ministry and the role of the church in that call Beliefs as a Christian Gifts for ministry Current understanding of their call to ministry as elder, deacon, or licensed ministry Support system

Becoming Certified ¶310.2b-f 2012 Discipline Complete background checks Credit check Criminal background check Notarized statement that candidate is neither accused in writing nor convicted of a felony, misdemeanor, any incident of sexual misconduct, or child abuse. Complete psychological assessment Agree to highest ideals of Christian life (¶¶101-104 and ¶¶160-166) Interview and ¾ approval on written ballot by the dCOM

Continuing Candidacy ¶313 2012 Discipline Annual recommendation by charge conference Satisfactory educational progress Annual interview and renewal by dCOM Certified candidacy limited to 12 years

Conclusion of Candidacy Appointment as Local Pastor (¶311) Denial of certification or discontinuance of candidacy by dCOM (¶314) Withdrawal from candidacy (¶314) Approval by Clergy Session for Provisional Membership (¶324) dCOM approval – 3/4 written ballot BOM recommendation – 2/3 majority Approval by Clergy Session
