Master Technology Teacher Competency 004: F-G Blanca E. Pena EDTC 6343.61 – Fall 2012
2
Competency 004 The Master Technology Teacher knows and applies basic strategies and techniques for digital video technology.
3
The Master Technology Teacher Demonstrates knowledge of techniques used in postproduction (e.g., editing and creating control and/or time coded tracks; creating transitions, captions, and titles; applying 2-D and 3-D animation effects). Knows how to convert between analog video and digital video.
4
Terminology Postproduction Editing & Creating control Time coded tracks Transitions Captions Titles 2-D and 3-D Animation Analog Video Digital Video
5
Postproduction Post-production is the final major phase of a production process. Common tasks include: Editing video footage Editing the soundtrack, adding sound effects, music, etc. Adding titles and graphics Colour and exposure correction Adding special effects Arranging footage in the correct sequence Re-shooting certain scenes if required ("pick- up" shots)
6
Editing & Creating Control Frame accuracy is essential for videotape control in identifying clips and for editing. Control transitions Fade-to-black The horizontal lines in each clip represent the clip’s transparency. Clips are transparent when the line is at the bottom of the clip.
7
Time Coded Tracks Is an eight-digit code that allows you to specify precise video and audio editing points hh = number of hours mm = number of minutes ss = number of seconds ff = number of frames 00:01:16:12: 0 hours, 1 minute, 16 seconds and 12 frames.
8
Transitions Transitions are the animation-like effects that occur when you move from one slide to the next during an on-screen presentation or video. Cut Crossfade / Mix / Dissolve Fade
9
2-D Animations Pictures are flat, without depth and offer only one perspective 2d animation usually consists of frames being showed rapidly to produce the effect of movement and usually has no reality features to it.
10
3-D Animations Pictures have depth and offer multiple perspectives just like in real life and have soft subtle shadows casted on the objects and characters within.
11
Analog Video Analog video uses an electrical signal to capture images on magnetic tape. Analogy Devices: VCRs, tape players, and record players Analog devices read the media, such as tapes or records, by scanning the physical data off the media
12
Digital Video A digital video signal is a pattern of 1’s and 0’s that represent the video image Digital media is non-linear, which means it can be edited or played back starting at any point. Digital information also does not "wear out" after repeated use like tapes or records do, which results in much better longevity for digital media.
13
Convert Analog to Digital You can use a digital to analog converter (DAC) to convert the analog information into a digital signal that can be recognized by your computer. Process is called digitizing
14
Convert Digital to Analog Step 1: Connect VHS player or camcorder via RCA out to a USB capture device. Step 2: Connect the capture device to your PC's USB port. Step 3: Capture and transfer movies to DVD Roxio Easy – VHS to DVD
