POWER STATION POWER STATION

 In electricity generation, an electric generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.  A generator forces electrons in the windings to flow through the external electrical circuit.

What is generator?

GENERATOR

 A power station is an industrial facility for the generation of electric energy.

Power Station

 In thermal power stations, mechanical power is produced by a heat engine that transforms thermal energy, often from combustion of a fuel, into rotational energy.

 A thermal power station is a power plant in which the prime mover is steam driven.  Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a steam turbine which drives an electrical generator.

 After it passes through the turbine, the steam is condensed in a condenser and recycled to where it was heated; this is known as a Rankine cycle.

Thermal Power Station

In a thermal power station fuel such as coal, oil or gas is burned in a furnace to produce heat - chemical to heat energy. this heat is used to change water into steam in the boiler. the steam drives the turbine - heat to kinetic energy this drives the generator to produce electricity - kinetic to electrical energy.
