4 A magnet has the property of attracting metals. There are three magnetic materials: Iron (steel) Cobalt nickel

5 Shapes of magnets There are different types of magnets: Bar-maagnet U-shaped magnet Round magnets

6 Poles of the magnet Any magnet is made up of two poles The north pole (N) The south pole (S)

7 Poles interactions Similar poles of different magnets will repel each other. (N-N and S-S) Opposite poles will attract each other. (N-S andS-N)

8 What happens when you break a magnet? The poles of a magnet can never be separated. When you break a magnet, it forms two new magnets. A magnet is made up of many small magnets
