3 Location Nova Scotia is 1 of the 10 provinces in Canada It is the second smallest province Nova Scotia is located on the east coast of Canada almost surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean Nova Scotia has 2 parts: Cape Breton island and the mainland

4 Halifax Nova Scotia’s capital city The most important naval base in Canada Population: 332,500 Halifax became the capital city of Nova Scotia in 1749 The Halifax explosion destroyed parts of Halifax in 1917 The Citadel (Halifax) was built to protect Halifax from attack The forts (Point Pleasant Park ) protected Halifax until the end of World War II

5 Population Nova Scotia is the home of over 900,000 Canadians It is home to the Mi’Kmag Native tribe It also has Canada’s oldest African- Canadian Community

6 Tourism The oldest celebration of Scottish sports, dance, and music is held in Canada at the High Land Games in Antiganish The Alexander Branham Bell Nation historic site on Cape Breton Island displays Mr.Bells The light house at Peggy's Cove is a small fishing village also a post office. 7 Industry Forests cover 3 halfs of Nova Scotia We have a lumber industry and a pulp Industry and paper industry Nova Scotia’s lobsters are eaten all over Canada lobster

8 Fast Facts The Mayflower is Nova Scotia’s Flower Nova Scotia’s tree is the red Spruce and the Osprey is its bird Mayflower
