Motivation Ways a business can encourage staff to give their best. Helps the business to be more successful. Can mean: Increased output as working harder Improved quality as taking pride in work Less absence Financial and Non Financial methods of motivation

Financial methods Paying a good salary/wage Overtime for additional hours worked Profit sharing

Non Financial Methods Employee of the month awards Job rotation Job enrichment – giving them more challenging tasks Empowerment – responsibility to make decisions about their work Teams – working together Fringe benefits (e.g. company car, health care, discounts) Holidays

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Maslow believed that motivation lies within the individual employees He suggested that people have a number of different needs These needs are put in order of importance Once a lower level need is satisfied, individuals strive to satisfy needs further up the hierarchy Beauchamps High School
