Look for interesting patterns, textures and designs… a sunflower, the soles of your shoes, lace, toys???

Press it into a slab of clay, get it bisque fired, trim around it if you want to use it as a stamp

Make a couple so your have at least one you really like!

Press anything into the clay and lightly roll with a rolling pin to soften the edges if you like this look

You can use the positive or the negative

Roll your slab, maintaining moisture levels, your work will crack if it is too dry, now, press your texture stamp into your clay, or vice versa depending on your stamp!!! Option 1

Cut rectangular slabs or wrap around newspaper to form rounded vessels. If your clay cracks, it is too dry! Carefully attach a slab bottom, allow to dry before adding a foot or your cup will slump!

Made from cut slabs, slip and scored together. Made by wrapping textured slab around newspaper roll.

Don’t’ let your slab dry out too much before building or it will crack!

Option 2 Make your slab cups first and push your texture stamps into the sides of your cups making sure you support the inside of your ware. A demonstrative picture should be here, but Clark…dang it Clark! What are you doing???

Our next assignment we’ll be constructing a teapot, if you want to make a matched set now would be a good time to consider your teapot design and how your cups will go with it! Although it is not required for you to do so, you might like a matched set!!!
