Heat is one of our science units in second grade. Second graders will explore to find the temperature of the classroom. They will do this by changing different variables around the thermometer Placed on different colored paper Placed in front of window or around classroom Placed on metal/plastic Placed near the heater, window, door ?

“the ability to access digital information sources to retrieve desired information” (Jukes, McCain, Crocket 2009, p.65). This is a 5 step process, according to the 21 st Century Fluency Project. A sk good questions A ccess and acquire material from appropriate sources A nalyze, authenticate, and arrange the materials A pply the knowledge within a real world problem A ssess both the product and process  Click the image.

In second grade we study animal groups. After learning characteristics about the six groups through looking at pictures, reading books, and searching through magazine articles … In a group of 3, students create a new species that belongs to one of the six groups. When they are done, the group presents their new species to the class and the class needs to identify which animal group it belongs to.

is … team working cooperatively with virtual and real partners through online environments to create unique digital projects (Jukes, McCain, Crocket 2009, p.65). Virtual Interaction

Mysteries and Fairy Tales are the two genres that second graders focus on in our district. Second graders create stories, using the story elements from mysteries and fairy tales. Second graders work in groups to create a mystery or fairy tale story Then they animate the story on the computer with the site http://domo.goanimate.com/studio http://domo.goanimate.com/studio When the stories are complete, we share them with the class.
